Victor Hugo started 'Les Misérables' in 1845 under the title 'Les Misères'.
Then he “abandoned” them for fifteen years.
He resumed them in 1860, and the first part of the book appeared on April 3, 1862.
On May 15, publication of the second and third parts of the novel (immense popular success, the crowd gathered at 6 am in front of the bookstore gates).
On June 30 the last two parts appear.
