JJV's Offs

JJV's Offs

Hello everyone!

Welcome to a new opus of "JJV Offs"!

" I love carnival, it’s a time of celebration and entertainment that thrills me."

Since my childhood, when I was part of the dancing group that I then trained from the age of 14, I loved dancing parades. Carnivals or village festivals, I loved contributing to a warm and colorful atmosphere. It was one of the rare moments where, for the sake of appearance, I could have a normal childhood with my friends from the club.

Even though I was closely monitored so as not to talk about what was happening at home, I could find moments when I was still allowed to behave like a normal child. Good times from this dancing group which allowed me to make friends and see that childhood is not just about being belittled, humiliated or beaten up.

I was lucky in my life to meet wonderful people who allowed me to understand at a young age that what was happening in the family was not normal and to get out of it to have respite and live normally. My best solution for leaving as soon as possible without risking passing was to keep quiet so as not to attract additional wrath and to leave as early as I could. From a very young age, I quickly understood that I didn't count and that I was clearly too much.

It took me a long time to start getting over it and being able to talk about it. But I am not the only one to have experienced such events. I was ashamed and felt worthless. But it is not our place to be ashamed of the wounds inflicted on us. That's why now I'm happy to share good times with you and good discussions in my everyday life.

Carnival or parties allow me, like games, to escape for a moment like they did when I was a child and teenager. The beauty of games is that they allow you to open up to others via a common base. This is what I humbly try to offer to little ones who sometimes experienced things similar to my childhood. I don't understand how you can harm an innocent being like a child, even your own child...

I'm happy to see them enjoy a moment where they forget what they've been through and find a smile again for a moment. When I was asked if I wanted to participate in these moments through games with them, I accepted without thinking and I have no regrets. For them I am “the fairy of smiles”, for me they are the “little elves of hope”.

I have hope for them that they too can build themselves despite their past and not become broken adults who no longer believe in anything. I love seeing them smile, hearing them laugh, seeing them play and simply enjoying life innocently as they deserve. So if I can continue to be a moment of respite, complicity and joy for them for a moment, I will continue to be so with pleasure and determination.

Good day and good game! ;)

2 words game Magnum Opus

2 words game Magnum Opus

Hello everyone!

Today we're going to talk about Magnum Opus!

Seasoned alchemists and their curious friends, for 2 to 5 players, ages 12 and up, for 30 minutes, it's up to you to find the Magnum Opus!

Welcome to Prague, the capital of the occult arts! Among the alchemists and various personalities who mingle, become a patron or a renowned alchemist.

Play as an alchemist who has come to Prague to gather the alchemical components necessary to create one or two formulas for their Magnum Opus. Each component acquired, each formula completed, and each pair of components found earns prestige points. A game consists of 5 rounds, each played in the same way.

The supply phase involves 3 to 5 players drawing 2 alchemical component tokens (only 1 for 2 players) and placing them on the Golden Lane. A third token is added, revealed during the setup phase from left to right. Then, 3 alchemical component tokens are placed on the Astronomical Clock Square.

The solicitation phase begins when each player chooses one of the personality cards from their hand and places it face down in front of them. The deck under the ouberos is not looked at.

Players without the ouberos pass their card decks to their right-hand neighbor during rounds 1, 3, and 5, and to their left-hand neighbor during rounds 2 and 4. The player with the ouberos passes their deck to their neighbor but takes their neighbor's deck and places it under the ouberos.

The card placed in front of each player is then revealed. These cards are then placed in front of the players in each round, grouped by character type and number, until a player has six cards in front of them. At this point, no more personality cards are transferred.

The game then moves to the patronage phase, where players gain advantages based on the majority of personality cards. The player with the ouberos calls out each character number. The player with the most coins each round wins that group of personalities and any associated coins.

The player can then use the favor associated with the personality. If there is a tie, the players share the coins but cannot use the personality's favor or go to the Astronomical Clock Plaza.

Cards 1 through 6 indicate alchemical components. The player can then choose not to use the personality's favor and buy an alchemical component from the Astronomical Clock Plaza for 3 silver tokens. A personality's favor can only be used once and on a higher personality value. The next round is then set up.

At the end of the 5th round, the game ends as soon as there are no more alchemical components to buy. Each player then reveals their Magnum Opus card. He scores 1 prestige point per alchemical ingredient collected, 1 point per pair of components in sight, and 2 additional prestige points per completed formula.

The player with the most prestige points wins.

Good day and good game ;)
