Hello everyone !

Today we're going to talk about Fidchell.

The object of Fidchell's game is the capture of the opposing pawns by strangulation.

To take a pawn, two of our pawns had to encircle it.

As soon as the opposing pawn was taken, we turned it to put it on the side of our color.

We won when all the pawns were placed and the player with the most pawns of his color dominated.

Could this Celtic game, Fidchell, be the ancestor of our current Othello (or reversi)?

Have a good day everyone and have a good game;)

Hello everyone, today we are going to talk about the 9 hole merelle.

Better known nowadays under the name of small square, mill or 9 hole game, it is a game that comes to us from Celtic antiquity.

He has experienced several revivals of interest in history, particularly in the Middle Ages and today.

The two players each have nine pawns which they enter in turn on any intersection of the board.

Each time one of them succeeds in aligning three pawns, he has the right to remove one of his opponent's pieces, except those which are already in an alignment of three.

When all the pawns are in play, the game continues by alternately moving a pawn to an adjacent empty intersection, and striving to re-align.

When one of the players has succeeded in blocking his opponent, so that he can no longer make a move, or when he has taken all his pawns except two, he wins.

Have a nice day, thank you and let's be careful. Have a good game;)

Hello everyone.

Gwezboell is a strategy game from Antiquity, reproducing the endemic wars of the ancient Celtic world.

Unlike classic chess and checkers, the Gwezboell pits two camps of unequal strength, each with a different goal.

The Great King besieged in his central mansion, is protected by eight little kings.

With their help, he must escape his attackers by reaching one of the four corners of the checkerboard.

The attackers are sixteen, in four groups of four pawns.

They must capture the king by blocking him and preventing him from moving.

Good day and good game ;)

Hello everyone.

The game of the dog and the jackal is composed of two sets of five sticks with the heads of a dog and a jackal and a board pierced with two zones of twenty-nine holes.

In addition to taking their pawns off the board, players could get additional points based on the common placement of their pawns.

A course with stages brought them back or offered them shortcuts.

Good day and good game ;)

Hello everyone.

The "20 boxes" was a game quite similar to our territory conquest board games which inspired the creation of the senet.

It was called "twenty" or "twenty boxes" or also "aseb", a word probably of Babylonian origin.

We progressed by throwing either astragalus or tetrahedron-shaped dice.

It was necessary to move on the rows of boxes one after the other, avoiding the traps of certain boxes.

The positioning of the pawns gave points according to particular combinations.

Good day to you all. Good game ;)

 Hello everybody!

The senet (or zénet) is the most famous game of ancient Egypt.

He would have helped to prepare the passage of the deceased in the afterlife.

There are many representations engraved or painted on the walls of the tombs: images of characters playing, seated in front of their gaming tables.

We played two.

The ten game pawns (5 of each color for each player) were placed on the board by alternating one pawn of each color on the first 10 squares of the game (30 squares in total).

We threw the 4 astragals (small sticks that served as dice) then we advanced the number of sticks on the rounded or colored side (depending on the ages of the game).

The first player to get all these pawns out wins the game.

There were five special boxes that acted as traps. An ancestor of the game of goose and small horses?

Good day to you all. Take care of your loved ones and yourself.

Hello everyone!

Mehen (or “snake game”) is one of the oldest board games in the world.

The stone or earthenware game tables resemble a goose game in the shape of a coiled snake.

Each player has these three lions and three lionesses to advance on the board using the 36 marbles (red or white) that the player threw.

The object of the game is to be the first to make all of your pawns travel the snake from head to tail.

Good day and good game ;)

Monopoly was invented by a woman who tried to warn people about the dangers of capitalism!

In 1904, a woman named Elizabeth Magic obtained a patent for a board game she invented called "Owner's Game."

Magic aimed with its game to inform and alert people to the economic dangers and the antisocial nature of the monopoly.

Charles Darrow, improved it and named it Monopoly in 1931.

This game went on to become the most famous board game around the world.

Good day everyone and take care of yourself and your loved ones.

Hello everyone!

Where does the expression "checkmate" come from?

The game of chess is 3000 years BC in India.

"Shah" is the title of the Persian monarch, and automatically the chess king was called the "Shah".

To win at chess, you must defeat the king by attacking him and rendering him unable to move.

This is called "checkmate".

This expression actually comes from "Shah Mat" which means "The king is defeated".

Mat is a Persian word for "defeated", "helpless", or "paralyzed".

Any Rubik's Cube configuration can be solved in just 20 moves!

Despite the fact that it took Erno Rubik, the inventor of the Rubik's Cube, a month to solve it, and this famous puzzle has 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 possible configurations, the latter can be solved by only 20 movements!

This is the conclusion of a team of researchers based in Palo Alto, Calif., Who used Google computers to perform this calculation that would take 35 years on a high-end PC.

By going through algebra, by modeling each of the rotations as a letter, the researchers demonstrated that any configuration of the cube can be solved in 20 movements. This number of movements is known as the god number.

A dice story!

A dice story!

On 19/09/2018

The dice owes its name to the Latin "datura" which means "given by lot".

2400 years BC the first dice were found in the Indus Valley (present-day Pakistan).

The Indians were the first dice players.

The earliest traces of their ancestors the knucklebones date from ancient Egypt.

Found in the tombs, they were used as amulets and for divination.

The ossicle never stabilizes on the rounded faces but on the 4 flat faces (where the numbers are put).

In ancient times, four bones were thrown at a time and the total was counted.

The first pipé ossicle dates from the medieval period when it was filed and sealed.

The games of throwing and the games of chance were the two dice games played by the Romans.

Julius Caesar when he crossed the Rubicon without permission used the expression "alea jacta est" literally "the die is cast".

The Greek Palamedes and his troops played dice during the siege of Troy.

They appear in France around the 12th century at the time of chivalry.

In some cities there are even “Scholae Deciorum” or Dice Game Academies.

If I say leaf game or mamelukes, does that mean anything to you?

You certainly know their descendants the playing cards.

The playing cards were born thanks to a derivative of the Indian divinatory dice.

Between 618 and 907 Princess Tongchang then played the leaf game with her in-laws.

As early as the 11th century, Mongolian merchants from Asia reportedly brought them back to Europe along with silk.

It was also in the 14th century that they could have entered via Venice through the Egyptian Mamluk.

This 52-card deck is the one that most closely resembles our current deck.

Progress in printing facilitates their distribution throughout Europe and operates in 4 series (heart, bell, leaf, acorn in Germany; sword, stick, cup and coin in Spain and Italy).

The game that eventually became the "standard" is the French game as we know it with its clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades.

It was only during the French Revolution that the ace became stronger than the king to signify the power of the people over the king.

Jokers were not introduced until the end of the 19th century.

Did you know that the king of diamonds is inspired by Julius Caesar and the jack of clubs Lancelot du Lac?

The rise of printing contributed to the birth and development of card games.

The first board games and more modern card games arrive at the end of the 19th-early 20th century.

In 1890, the Whist gave way to bridge.

La Belotte was created in 1914 by Mr. Belot who himself established the first rules.

The first monopoly appeared in 1935 and was popularized much later in France.

This is the start of the era of modern games, be they boards, cards or dice.

The famous scrabble and 1000 terminals appeared in 1950 and 1954 respectively.

Once upon a time, 3000 years ago in Egypt, we were already playing board games.

With the game of 20 squares, you had to advance your pawn by trying to block your opponent on a board containing 20 squares.

20cases

It was subsequently made more difficult by the Persian Chalran in the 5th century.

The hierarchy of the pieces then allows more advanced tactics and game bases.

As early as 600 AD, the first chess players appear in the texts thanks to their Indian ancestor the chaturanga.

The Egyptians are part of the people who like to play board games.

You may recognize a game that everyone knows ... Mehen is the ancestor of the game of goose.

The progression is also done with pawns (lions, lionesses and 36 marbles) on a board.

Then appears the ancestor of backgammon, the seneth.

A tactical game where you have to advance your pawns on the board and reach the thirtieth square without getting your pawns caught or falling into traps.
